Mission: Mahjong! Community events provide free opportunities to learn and play mahjong every Sunday at libraries throughout the Las Vegas Valley in partnership with the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District.Community events are made possible through the support of our paid programming, allowing Mission: Mahjong! to continue offering free opportunities for people throughout Las Vegas to learn, play, and connect.Find when and where to find us on our events page.

Social Club Events

Mission: Mahjong! Social Club brings the community together through reserved-seating events at Las Vegas restaurants, bars and small businesses. Whether you're learning or enjoying an evening of open play, Social Club events combine great company with a fun atmosphere everybody can enjoy.Events typically range from $15–$35 depending on the venue and whether food or beverages are included. The upcoming Vegas Mahjong League will also call the Social Club home, offering regular league nights, seasonal play, and community competitions.Find our next Social Club Events Here.

Private Events

M:M Private offers premium mahjong experiences. Hosted in distinctive venues, these events prioritize atmosphere, hospitality, and uninterrupted mahjong in settings chosen as much for their character as for the game itself.Beginning at $50+, M:M Private events offer a more intimate experience where guests can relax, connect, and enjoy mahjong without the distractions of larger public gatherings.Seating is limited and available by reservation only. About Mission: Mahjong!

Mission: Mahjong! is a Las Vegas-based organization bringing people together through mahjong. We create welcoming, thoughtfully designed opportunities to learn, play, and connect through community programming, social gatherings, private experiences, instruction, tournaments, and custom events throughout Southern Nevada.What began as a small group of local players has grown into a thriving network of programs and experiences serving everyone from first-time players and longtime enthusiasts to businesses, community organizations, hospitality partners, and private groups. Since 2025, thousands of player visits have been made to Mission: Mahjong! events, and we've taught more than 500 people to play through our recurring community programs alone.

It Started Around a Family Table

For founder Angel Kuo, teaching mahjong started long before Mission: Mahjong! had a name.Angel learned Taiwanese mahjong from her grandmother when she was 11 years old - and promptly turned around and taught her brother and cousins how to play. Years later, when she left home for college, she went looking for other people to play with and discovered Hong Kong-style mahjong. There was just one problem: nobody she met knew how to score.So she adapted the Taiwanese scoring system she had grown up with to Hong Kong-style gameplay. Over the years, as she played with different people and encountered different traditions and house rules, some of those rules made their way into the game as well.That evolving style of play eventually became what we now call Vegas Style Mahjong: a quick-to-learn, social variation rooted primarily in Hong Kong-style gameplay, with a distinctive scoring system influenced and shaped by decades of playing around different tables.

There's More Than One Way to Play Mahjong

Vegas Mahjong is the style we primarily teach at our Sunday Community events and, we think, a great place to start.Vegas Mahjong introduces players to many of the fundamental concepts, patterns, and strategies they'll encounter across other forms of mahjong. Once you've learned the basics, those skills can provide a foundation for exploring other styles of the game.And we encourage you to do exactly that!Mahjong has traveled across countries, cultures, communities, and generations, developing countless regional variations and traditions along the way. Our founder has learned, and is currently learning, American, Riichi, Filipino, Sichuan, Guangdong, and Vietnamese mahjong in addition to the Taiwanese and Hong Kong traditions that shaped Vegas Mahjong, and players of different traditions are always welcome at our tables.We encourage our community to learn from one another, try different styles, share the traditions they grew up with, and appreciate the cultural histories behind the game. There's no single way to play mahjong, and discovering how differently it can be played is part of the fun!

Instruction on Sundays begin 15 minutes after the start of the library event. No sign-up needed, tables and sets are provided - just walk on in! If you're unable to make it before start of instruction, you're still welcome to join us and watch!
Our regular players are sometimes willing to offer informal instruction as they play. However, this is not guaranteed, so we ask that anybody who comes to watch to please be respectful of mahjong games in progress.

Private Instruction

Private lessons are available for individuals and groups of up to 10 participants.

Available styles:
• Chinese/Hong Kong
• American/NMJL
• Japanese/Riichi
• Filipino

Individual instruction (1 person)
$90 per hour.

Groups (2-10 people)
$90 for the first participant, plus $45 per additional participant for 2 hours of instruction.Note: There is an additional $20 surcharge per head for American/NMJL instruction.
Additional Time
Additional hours may be added at 35% of the original 2-hour session total, per hour.Example: A $300 group session would be $105 per additional hour.To book an appointment, please submit an inquiry below, and specify in the subject line: "Mahjong Private Instruction".

• Venue sourcing can be arranged upon request; all associated rental costs will be billed separately.

Equipment Rental

If you’re looking for mahjong setups without instruction, we’re happy to provide ready-to-play equipment for your event. Just let us know how many tables, sets, and chairs you’ll need.A full mahjong setup - one table, one set, and four chairs, including delivery, setup, and breakdown - is $150 for up to a 4-hour event.Additional time, quantities, or custom requests can be accommodated. Final pricing may vary based on event details such as location, timing, and logistics.Please specify in the subject line: "Mahjong Rental"
